TPD spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor told local media that the call of the shooting in the pool area of the apartment complex came in at 4:18 p.m.
Taylor said the suspect was taken into custody outside University Mall shortly after the call was received. However, officers are currently looking for another suspect.
She then said a portion of the eastbound lane of 15th Street is closed to traffic where the suspects abandoned the vehicle.
The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is now handling the case and TPD says the child struck by gunfire suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
TPD also said it is asking drivers to avoid the area of Hargrove Road near McFarland Boulevard as the investigation moves forward.
No arrests or suspects have been publicly named as of the publication of this story.
This is a developing story. Tuscaloosa Patch will post more details as they come available.
