Press release from the City of Annapolis: Posted on: December 23, 2020 MEDIA STATEMENT Mayor Gavin Buckley Public Information Office 160 Duke of Gloucester Street Annapolis, Maryland 21401 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Media Contact: Mitchelle Stephenson, 410-972-7724 or [email protected] Mayor Buckley: "The Retirement of Thomas V. 'Mike' Miller Marks the End of an Era in Maryland Politics" "The retirement of Thomas V. 'Mike' Miller marks the end of an era in Maryland politics. Sen. President (Emeritus) Miller took the gavel of the Maryland State Senate in January of 1987. For the next three decades, the direction and outcome of countless legislative initiatives were defined by his leadership. He will forever be remembered as the longest serving Senate President in Maryland history, but he will also be remembered as a friend to the City of Annapolis. "I will forever be grateful for his service to our state. He had an eye for educational legislation and budgetary action to lift up our students. He shepherded legislation to pass same-sex marriage and end the death penalty. He was fervent in his service to constituents. He leaves a legacy for elected leaders to emulate. "I wish President Miller the best as he continues to deal with his health challenges. I know his wife, children and grandchildren will enjoy that he can devote more time to them."
