A performance under the stars by famed jazz musician Geoff Clapp, joined by Austin Johnson on piano and Khari Allen Lee on saxophone Join us for a night of extraordinary jazz-grooves featuring Geoff Clapp and his trio, Khari Allen Lee and Austin Johnson. Geoff Clapp has been performing, touring and recording as a drummer since the age of 12. Geoff has played with Peter Martin, Wynton Marsalis, Ellis Marsalis Trio/Quartet, Jason Marsalis Quartet (Jason on Vibes), Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Nicholas Payton, Mark Turner, Kermit Ruffins, Charlie Hunter Trio/Quintet, Christian McBride, Reuben Rogers, Robert Glasper, and Dianne Reeves to name a few. Khari Allen Lee has performed and recorded with such luminaries as Alvin Batiste, Ellis Marsalis, Edward 'Kidd' Jordan, Aretha Franklin, Dr. John, Branford Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, DeeDee Bridgewater, Stevie Wonder, Raphael Saadiq, the Treme Brass Band, Herlin Riley, Nicholas Payton, the Astral Project, Shannon Powell, Wes ‘Warmdaddy’ Anderson, Jason Marsalis, Bill Summers, Jeff 'Tain' Watts, Ravi Coltrane, Kenny Barron & more. He is lead saxophonist & touring member of Delfeayo Marsalis’ Uptown Jazz Orchestra, the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra directed by Adonis Rose, & is presently on the faculty at Loyola University following his extended tenure at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA). Austin Johnson began his musical journey as a teenager playing with various blues and rock bands in Raleigh, North Carolina. After a choice encounter with the music of Herbie Hancock, Johnson began to immerse himself in the Jazz scene where he had the opportunity to learn from Lennie Tristano pupil Ed Paolantonio. He furthered his studies at The Florida State University where he studied with Bill Peterson and Marcus Roberts. Johnson completed a master’s degree in music at the University of New Orleans where he studied with Victor Atkins, Ellis Marsalis, and Robin Williams. Upon graduating, Austin chose to stay in New Orleans for the next 8 years where he had the pleasure of performing with many notable players including Jason Marsalis, Victor Goins, Geoff Clapp, Alexey Marti and Herlin Riley, among others. Johnson currently lives in Chapel Hill, NC where he maintains a performance schedule and works in software development.
