Have you been dreaming of your first multi-day backcountry adventure? Located on the Georgia / South Carolina border is the wild and scenic Chattooga River. Join us on this beginner-friendly 2-night backpacking trip to experience the beauty and serenity that this trail has to offer! See below for a more detailed itinerary. We will offer an optional 1-hour video call: Backpacking for Beginners the Sunday evening (June 5th @ 7:00 PM) prior to this trip for those who would like to attend. This call is free to anyone who would like to join. We will talk about things like how to pack your backpack, what kind of gear you need for an overnight trip, safety on the trail, etc. The last half hour will be a Q&A. FREE tickets are available separately for this call. You must reserve a free ticket to receive the link for the Backpacking for Beginners video call. This call will be hosted on the Google platform. Friday, June 10th 10:30 AM - Meet at the Clayton Ingles. Grab lunch.11:00 AM - Depart Ingles and caravan to Burrels Ford parking lot. Note: We will leave 1-2 cars at the Highway 28 lot (Ridley Fields), as that is where this trip will conclude on Sunday.12:00 PM - Have lunch by the river.1:00 PM - Begin backpacking: depart parking lot heading S on the Chattooga River Trail. For this section of trail, we will have an optional side trail hike to King Creek Falls. The total mileage of this side trail is .6 miles. The trail to Kings Creek Falls is only .5 miles from the parking lot. We will hike approximately 4.4 miles to a group of campsites by the river. 6:00 PM - Arrive at camp. Set up & have dinner.Saturday, June 11th 10:00 AM - Depart camp. We will hike 2.9 miles to a waterfall.12:00 PM - Stop at the waterfall for a lunch / swim break. 1:30 PM - We will hike another 2 miles before setting up camp for the night. 3:00 PM - Arrive at camp. Set up. We will have time this particular afternoon to hang out at camp, fish, swim, have a fire, and explore. Sunday, June 12th 10:00 AM - Depart camp. At this point, we will have just over 3 miles before reaching the Highway 28 parking lot. 12:00 PM - Have lunch at Ridley Fields.1:00 PM - Return to cars at Burrels Ford.2:00 PM - Say goodbye and start dreaming about your next trip!Note: All timelines during the hiking portion are estimates. Times may vary depending on group fitness and desires. This trip is subject to cancellation based on the weather. A final decision will be made by Wednesday preceding the trip. You may cancel and receive a full refund (minus fees) up to 7 days before the event. A refund will not be issued for cancelations within a week of the trip departure date. In the event that this group hike is canceled or rescheduled due to an unforeseeable circumstance such as severe weather, trail closure, or emergency, a full refund (minus fees) will be available. Adventure the Outdoors and Megan McGahee are not responsible for transportation to/from the meeting location. The attendee (ticketed individual) assumes all risk and liability during this activity. It is understood at the purchasing of this ticket that the attendee has proper insurance and agrees to sign a waiver removing all liability from Adventure the Outdoors and Megan McGahee.
