Practice, practice, practice! Further your jazz education and refine your chops at this FREE masters class clinic featuring some of the very same greats you’ll find on stage at this year’s festival. Aspiring and accomplished jazz musicians of all ages are invited to learn and grow their skills in an intimate setting in an intimate setting located right next to the Jacksonville Jazz Festival event site. Brian MacDonald is the lead trumpeter and Flight Chief of TheAirmen of Note, The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling,Washington, D.C. A native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, his career in the Air Forcebegan in 1999. - CMSgt Kevin Burns: split lead / 2nd trumpetBefore entering the Air Force, Chief Burns played lead trumpet with the nationally televised “Richard Roberts Live” and “Expect A Miracle” television shows in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He also was a featured soloist with the San Antonio Symphony, the Oklahoma Symphonia/Tulsa Pops, the Tulsa Ballet, the Bartlesville Symphony, Ms. Oklahoma Pageant Orchestra, and worked extensively with various big bands and jazz combos. Prior to moving to Oklahoma, Chief Burns was the lead trumpeter for the 1985Tennessee All-State Jazz Band, toured the entire continental U.S. with “The Spurrlows” from Florida, and toured Europe and theEastern U.S. with various music groups while attending Lee University. Chief Burns has performed with an extensive lineup of notable artists and has arranged and played on hundreds of recording sessions, including projects for Disneyland, Disney andNorwegian Cruise Lines, Disney Tokyo, Alfred Music, ESPN, and ABC Sports. - MSgt Lucas Brandon: 3rd trumpet / Music DirectorBrandon’s Air Force career highlights include the Jazz Heritage Series concerts with Terell Stafford, Branford Marsalis, Christian McBride, Chris Potter, Kenny Barron, Peter Bernstein, and Peter Erskine, as well as numerous appearances at some of the country’s top jazz festivals, including Detroit, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Lionel Hampton and Hartford jazz festivals. Brandon marched in the 45th Presidential Inauguration and the 2017 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. He also performed on severalAirmen of Note recordings including “Veterans of Jazz,” “AIR Power!,” and “Global Reach.” - TSgt Logan Keese: 4th trumpet Air Force musical highlights for Sgt. Keese include performances with such jazz luminaries as Wayne Bergeron, Peter Erskine, CMSgt (Ret.) Joe Eckert and Bradley Robinson. Furthermore, Keese was a featured soloist on Eric Richard’s composition Fantasy for Trumpet and Jazz Orchestra while a member of the Air Force Band of the West’s jazz ensemble Dimensions in Blue, performing the piece live in several settings. Live recorded video of those performances subsequently won third place in the Air Force media competition for Best Live Instrumental Performance.
