Here are the top three stories in Charleston today: The Charleston City Council will be hosting a special meeting on May 17 at 5:00 p.m. to hear objections from King Street business owners who want to be excluded from a new taxing district. For the district to go into effect, over 50 percent of the district's property owners would have to support it. Opponents of the business improvement district argue that it would lead to further gentrification and wealth disparity. (Charleston Post Courier)The Charleston Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 800 block of Burger Street Sunday morning. The shooting has left one person with a non-life-threatening injury to the leg. There have been no arrests related to the incident. (ABC NEWS 4)The Northwoods Mall will be hosting a Black-owned business expo on Jun. 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The expo will host more than 30 different vendors while allowing the community the opportunity to shop and support local black-owned businesses.
