Award-winning violin legend Tim Kliphuis will teach a gypsy jazz workshop in Gainesville Florida June 11th 2022 Dutch violinist Tim Kliphuis (http://timkliphuis.com) is a gypsy jazz legend. He is known from many albums and tours with the top European gypsy guitarists, such as Fapy Lafertin, The Rosenberg Trio, Angelo Debarre, Samson Schmitt, etc. Tim frequently headlines performances at the major gypsy jazz festivals but manages to dovetail his energetic performance schedule with his long-standing professorship in the Amsterdam Conservatoire’s Classical String Department. Tim is the author of the best-selling book “Gypsy Jazz Violin” and the follow-up publications “Grappelli Licks”, the DVD series “Hot Jazz Violin”, and the e-book “Gypsy Jazz First Aid Kit”. Tim’s “Improvisation for Strings”, written for classical players, is a complete introduction to improvising in various styles of music by applying a range of features and techniques, such as the pentatonic scale, ostinato, ghost notes, modal playing, leading notes and the chop. In the workshop, Tim will introduce you to the exciting gypsy jazz style of violinist Stéphane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt. Subjects will include jazz improvisation and stylistic tips, such as slides, blue notes, and syncopated jazz rhythms, taught in the context of popular gypsy jazz standards. All string instruments are welcome! Good command of the first position is recommended. No improvisation experience is necessary. Tim and his brilliant teaching are guaranteed to inspire and spirit you along the road to being a gypsy jazz player. (You’ll probably want to have a tape recorder, notebook, and pen.)
