Description

The statistic is alarming, the potential is promising, the difference will take us all Less than 2% of educators in the U.S. are Black males. The Call Me MISTER® program at Grambling State University exists to change that statistic. The first event of its kind in Louisiana, the conference aims to provide resources and networking opportunities for those that are determined to join us in this effort. The first degree conferred at Grambling State University was in education. As we continue this great profession and the lasting impact it has on so many lives, we must not let anyone or anything prevent us from helping young men realize their dream of becoming a teacher. We are DETERMINED! Who Should AttendStudents, administrators, and parents and middle schools, high schools, School Board Members, Pre-Education Pathway Directors, and Colleges of Education Conference ObjectivesBring awareness to the Call Me MiSTER ProgramReaffirm the determination and resilience of black men as servant leadersPresent the possibility of using the pre-teacher pathway as an avenue to create an Aspiring MiSTER Program in school districts About the Call Me MiSTER® ProgramThe mission of the Call Me MISTER® (Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models) initiative is to increase the pool of available teachers from a broader more diverse background, particularly among the State's lowest-performing elementary schools. Student participants are largely selected from underserved, socio-economically disadvantaged, and educationally at-risk communities. It is our desire to make all parties involved knowledgeable of this dynamic program and the workings it involves as well as how to properly set up an Aspiring MiSTER Program in high schools and middle schools.
