Carnival Cold Case: The Forgotten Ashes of Fat Tuesday The Story of an Unsolved Murder in the Bayou Doug Lamplugh will be joining us Thursday night to sign his recently released book: Murder at Mardi Gras. In this true crime-flavored novel, Detective William Boyett is called out on Mardi Gras evening in Mobile, Alabama to investigate the discovery of a young woman’s body wrapped in a carpet in a vacant lot a few blocks from the parade route. Over the next two months, Boyett works hard to solve the case, but he’s frustrated by miscalculations and downright incompetence by other members of the law enforcement community. His investigation goes nowhere, and when he’s promoted and transferred back into patrol, the unsolved homicide falls into the cold case status. A decade later, Boyett is assigned to a newly formed cold case squad. He soon picks up two cases he feels he can solve, one of which is the 2006 Mobile Mardi Gras murder he left behind. Now, with skilled, trusted colleagues at his side, he picks up the trail, determined to find the murderer, never expecting the horrific truth he will uncover. This gripping mystery thriller written by a seasoned criminal investigator will have you wondering if it is fact or fiction. Doug Lamplugh infuses this debut fiction novel with his experiences within the criminal justice system and illuminates the process of homicide cases through his professional involvement with multi-state, multi-jurisdictional investigation. The nuances of how a criminal investigation can rapidly change the trajectory of criminal proceedings will astound you. Doug Lamplugh spent 30 years in law enforcement, the first 6 as a local police officer in Pennsylvania where he served in patrol as well as a Detective. Doug left local policing and became a Special Agent, then a Special Agent Supervisor with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for the next 23 years. After retiring from the D.E.A., he began teaching criminal Justice classes at the University of South Alabama and Huntingdon College. Doug also founded a private investigations and consulting business and was certified trainer for private investigators in Alabama. Murder at Mardi Gras is Doug’s first novel.
