MIAMI, FL — Five people were injured Saturday afternoon when a small plane crashed on the Haulover Inlet Bridge in Miami, according to a report. The crash happened shortly before 1 p.m. when a plane carrying three people crashed on the bridge that connects Bal Harbour to the south and Haulover and Sunny Isles Beach to the north. The plane also struck an SUV carrying three people. Miami-Dade police confirmed the crash, which closed Collins Avenue between 96th and 163rd streets due to the large emergency response. The single-engine Cessna 172 departed from Hollywood-Fort Lauderdale International Airport bound for Key West and soon lost power, the FAA said in a statement. The plane burst into flames after crashing. Video from the crash scene shows a small plane on fire as black smoke billows into the air. Two people aboard the plane were taken to a trauma center and three people with non-life-threatening injuries were taken to a hospital, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. The department said Miami-Dade Police would provide information on the sixth patient. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
