Wallingford Student Advances To National Invention Convention

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Wallingford elementary school student recently won the Connecticut Invention Convention and has been invited to the U.S. National Invention Convention. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help Ava Grace, a fourth-grade student at Mary G. Fritz Elementary School, get to the national convention. Ava's invention is called the Lap Cap, which protects swimmers from head injuries while doing the backstroke. She participated in the town-wide invention convention and advanced to the state finals last month. The state judges were impressed with her achievement, and she was selected for The National Invention Convention, according to the GoFundMe page. Ava is a swimmer who has seen the problem of head injuries firsthand, according to the GoFundMe. "She designed and built the Lap Cap to help protect against head injury," a post on the GoFundMe page reads. "Ava Grace created multiple prototypes before she found one that worked. Participating in the National Invention Convention is a great honor and an excellent opportunity for Ava Grace."
