PRINCETON, NJ – For the second year, around 300 bicyclists will be heading to Princeton as part of the New York City to Philadelphia Greenway Ride, a two-day, 125-mile ride in support of the East Coast Greenway in New York, NJ and Pennsylvania. The riders will be making an overnight stop at Princeton. "There are nearly 300 participants including riders and volunteers, that will be coming into Princeton, and getting a chance to see the town, get off their bikes, after having just ridden some 70 plus miles," said Daniel Paschall, East Coast Greenway Mid-Atlantic Manager. The participants will begin their journey at Jersey City's Liberty State Park on Saturday morning, make an overnight stop at Princeton and then conclude the journey Sunday at Great Plaza at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia. Participants will stay at local hotels or camp at the YMCA. "They'll be quite ready, to each rest, find some great food, different shops - just like we did last year. So we're excited to bring folks back," Paschall said. Last year over 400 cyclists made a pit stop at Princeton. They come from 17 different states including Washington DC. So far, participants have already raised over $133,000 to aid East Coast Greenway Alliance's work to develop the greenway. "In the years that we've been doing these rides, we have raised $450,000 through this event. And that's supporting the Alliance's capacity to basically raise awareness to plan, coordinate and partner with local communities to promote greenways, and trails through New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, but across the whole east coast," Paschall said. The cyclists this year share "incredible camaraderie" and have involved their families to learn and contribute to the cause, Paschall said. "It's important to raise awareness for more safe spaces to walk and bike. Ee would love to see people just come to cheer cyclists on because we were all about the local trails and the local places," he said. The event will also help local communities raise awareness on the climate crisis. The two editions of the NYC-to-PHL Ride rank as the largest fundraising event in the 30-year history of the East Coast Greenway Alliance, according to the nonprofit. Volunteer opportunities to support the ride may still be available in Jersey City, Princeton and Philadelphia. Please visit greenway.org/ridevols for more information and to sign up.
