LAGUNA BEACH, CA — In Laguna Beach, you're never too far from any kind of natural beauty — whether you are lounging on the city's Main Beach or venturing through a nature trail, there is something to appreciate in store. Laguna Beach resident photographer Susana Cruciana captured this photo of prickly pear cactus at Treasure Island near Montage Laguna, she told Patch. She named the photograph "Prickly Toes on the Nose" out of admiration for the little buds lining each large cactus. The "toes" on the cactus are actually called cladodes, which produce colorful flowers after one to two years of sprouting. Once mature, the buds can be eaten and have a taste similar to sweet watermelon, according to Opuntias.com. Patch loves photos!
