Description
FREMONT, CA — Fremont officials, police officers and area residents celebrated the recently opened West Access Bridge and Warm Springs Plaza, adjacent to the Warm Springs South Fremont BART station, on Thusday evening with music, food trucks and a presentation from city staff.
The pedestrian and bicycle bridge crosses over five sets of Union Pacific Railroad tracks and connects the Warm Springs BART station to the Innovation District plaza.
The bridge/plaza, which opened in February 3, was a $41 million project intended to provide an easy commute with connections to transit, housing and workplaces, the city said.
Project partners included: BART, owner of new station access point; Alameda County Transportation Commission, which provided $30 million for construction funding; Union Pacific Railroad, which allowed the bridge over its tracks; Biggs Cardosa Associates, structural engineer; HNTB, bridge architect; Gates and Associates, plaza designer; and Shimmick Construction, the construction contractor, according to officials.
