Wolverine Services, an Akima Company, provides facilities O&M for Kauai Test Facility and is seeking a self-starter to take care of our metalworking needs at the Kauai Test Facility. We are seeking a safety minded, enthusiastic, hardworking, talented, and responsible person who can work independently in the successful performance of assigned tasking. For this position, the Maintenance Welder shall have a broad background in structural maintenance skills such as: welding metal components together to fabricate or repair items including brazing, gas and arc welding processes, thermal cutting, and grinding, use of sheet metal working machines and a variety of hand tools in cutting, bending, forming, and shaping. Full-time position $32.67/hr. plus benefits. The following skills are preferred: Required to read and understand engineering drawings and welding symbols, fabricates manufacture-welded parts from engineering drawing without direct supervision Maintain welding certifications, quality, and safety standards; keep records; maintain equipment and job supplies. Fusion welding and torch brazing for ground support equipment, ensuring the procedure is completed per the requirements of the national welding and brazing codes and specifications. Weld a wide variety of materials such as aluminum, magnesium, alloyed and low alloy steel, stainless steel, and nickel alloy steels Required to have knowledge of the materials to select the correct filler materials and shielding gas. Applies appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials. Lays out and marks points on parts or sub-assemblies using rule, square, scribe, or templates. Positions pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools, as appropriate. Operate metal shop equipment such as a lathe, mill, drill press, and grinder for use in fabricating required maintenance items. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Dedication to quality, exceptional work ethic, and the ability to work as part of a team. Participates in special projects as required. QUALIFICATIONS: The individual shall have a High School Diploma or equivalent. At a minimum, the individual shall be qualified for manual shielded metal arc welding of unlimited thickness plate, and square and rectangular tubing, groove and fillet welds, all positions, under American National Standards Institute/American Welding Society (ANSI/AWS) D1.1-90 (structural steel) and ANSI/AWS D14.1-85 (material handling equipment). Qualifications under ANSI/AWS D1.2-90 (structural aluminum) and ANSI/AWS D9.1-90 (sheet metal) are desired. Also, it is strongly desired that the individual has at least five (5) years of experience as a welder, with appropriate exposure to and abilities in the other structural maintenance areas discussed above.
