Thelma and the Sleaze caught me off guard the first time I saw them; I just wasn’t prepared for the blaze of bare skin and brazen intensity that the band delivered. But it needed to happen; I didn’t realize it at the time, but my brain wanted to be wallered by those three writhing banshees. I left the show with the same stupid satisfaction I get from breathing gasoline fumes at Mapco, maybe a tick tougher for surviving the onslaught. - by Terra James-Jura
Thelma and the Sleaze have been going strong for almost a decade now. During that time and has mostly been a power trio, it’s currently a tight four-piece — LG on guitar and vocals, Amaia Aguirre on keys, Chloe Katerndahl on bass, and Snowflake on drums — that has honed its sound through relentless touring. LG has described the group as “a bunch of badass, hard-workin’ women,” and legend has it, she once defended herself from a male assailant at a show by whacking him three times with her custom Gibson SG guitar she calls “Fancy.”
