Press release from Everett Community College: May 9, 2022 Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff, "Thank you very much for your patience during this morning's lockdown due to a threat Everett Community College received via email. Multiple EvCC offices received the email, which was sent Sunday night and read by staff this morning. The threat included racist language and specific acts of violence the writer said would occur. Police and EvCC Security have not found anything to substantiate that threat. EvCC Security put the college into lockdown this morning as officers worked with Everett police to assess the threat and the immediate safety and security of our campus. After that assessment concluded, I lifted the lockdown. Out of an abundance of caution, I decided to cancel in-person classes and services today. We have learned that other higher education institutions in our area have received similar threats. EvCC's Security Office is continuing to work closely with the FBI, Everett police, and the security offices at other colleges and universities that have received threatening emails. None of those threats have been substantiated. Based on what we know now, I am reopening Everett Community College for in-person classes and services on Tuesday, May 10. EvCC Security has asked the Everett Police Department to provide extra patrols for EvCC locations this week. You will also see a heightened presence of EvCC security officers. We take your safety very seriously. The threat made to EvCC and the lockdown can be distressing. EvCC's Counseling & Student Success (CSS) appointments are available to registered EvCC students. CSS offers appointments by phone or video. CSS also has a private office space for a student to use if they do not have access to a computer or a safe place. To schedule an appointment, please call 425-388-9263, email [email protected] or visit us during our office hours. Employees who need support may contact the Employee Assistance Program, available 24/7 at 877-313-4455 or request assistance online. If you have not yet signed up to receive EvCC Emergency Alerts, please sign up now to get a text message alert sent directly to you. Everyone can sign up - students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members. We will update you if any further information becomes available." Sincerely, Dr. Darrell L. Cain EvCC Interim President This press release was produced by Everett Community College. The views expressed here are the author's own.
