Description
NORWOOD, MA - In honor of Pride Month in June, the Morrill Memorial Library is honored to host Joan Ilacqua, Executive Director of The History Project, on Monday, June 6 at 7 p.m. on Zoom for "Milestones in Massachusetts."
This will be a discussion about the history of legal prosecution and protection of the LGBTQ+ community in Massachusetts from the Puritans to the present. Massachusetts was both the first state to legalize same-sex marriage and the first state to support transgender protections through popular vote. This presentation will highlight early laws against queer activity, the LGBTQ+ movement building throughout the 20th century, and the continued fight for rights in Massachusetts.
The History Project is Boston's LGBTQ+ community archives. Founded in 1980 by archivists, activists and historians, The History Project documents, preserves and shares LGBTQ+ history. Learn more at historyproject.org.
