NORWICH, Connecticut — State Sen. Cathy Osten was unanimously endorsed by the Democrats of the 19th Senate District at a convention, according to a statement. Osten, running for her sixth term, thanked the delegates and Democrats from each of the district's ten towns for their steadfast support. The district includes Columbia, Franklin, Hebron, Lebanon, Ledyard, Lisbon, Marlborough, Montville, Norwich, and Sprague. "I'm so grateful to the delegates and to the DTCs for their support. They've fought for me, and I've fought for them, most recently by securing the biggest tax cut in state history—600 million dollars," Osten said in a statement. "We're making Connecticut a better place to live for our working- and middle-class families. I pledge to continue to fight for good paying jobs, for our farming community, and for Eastern Connecticut. I thank you for the opportunity to once again fight for the people of the 19th District." Osten was nominated by Joe DeLucia, president pro-tem of the Norwich City Council. "Cathy's a fighter, and it's a good thing, too, because Democrats are going to need her leadership heading into November," DeLucia said in a statement. "Midterms are tough for our party, but with a champion like Cathy on the ballot, and Roe under attack, I have faith that Democrats will show up. We're going to work hard to make sure they do." Osten is a mother, grandmother, veteran, and organizer. A longtime resident of Sprague, Osten "has been fighting for the people of eastern Connecticut for decades," according to a statement She served as an intelligence officer in the United States Army before becoming a Corrections Officer, where she rose to the rank of lieutenant. She was first elected to the State Senate in 2012.
