We're happy to announce that this month's speaker will be Texas Discovery Gardens Entomologist, John Watts, who presents Get Bugged! Learn what makes a bug a bug, and why many of the garden critters you see are not. Discover the diverse behavior and habits of this group of insects. At 2:30pm we'll have refreshments, and at 3pm our meeting and program starts. Our meetings are always free and open the public. Bring a friend! The Greater Dallas Organic Gardening Club meets Jan-Sep in our Classroom. For more information, see www.gdogc.org. John Watts was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL where he developed an early interest in insects and began studying them at six years of age. He had hundreds of acres of woods and swamps directly behind his house where he spent most of his free hours exploring. John received his masters in entomology from the University of Florida where he specialized in insect husbandry. It was also in college that he began a lifelong interest in the biology and systematics of leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae). As a collector of insects he took it upon himself to learn plants. John is an avid gardener both for food and for wildlife, especially pollinators. His professional career started at the Cockrell Butterfly Center at the Houston Museum of Nature and Science and has been in the live butterfly exhibit business ever since. He spent seven years at the Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center in Westminster, Colorado before settling in Dallas. With over 20 years of experience and an inordinate fondness for nature in general John gladly shares his wealth of knowledge at Texas Discovery Gardens. NOTE: THIS EVENT IS INDOORS IN OUR CLASSROOM.
