HARLEM, NY — Looking to enjoy the spring weather in Harlem? Consider stopping by Jackie Robinson Park on Saturday, when it will play host to a free outdoor music and dance performance. The event by the National Dance Institute is the first in its summer-long Dancemobile series, which began last year with pop-up shows around the city. Saturday will feature two performances, at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., at the Jackie Robinson Park Bandshell, along Bradhurst Avenue at West 148th Street. They will feature 16 NDI dancers from New York City public schools, performing choreography to songs by Stevie Wonder and Tina Turner. Accompanying them will be NDI musicians Ly Bedana (piano), Todd Keller (drums), and Yakir Ben-Hur (bass), along with soul singer Greg Stamper. Meanwhile, the audience will be led in an interactive dance class by NDI teaching artist Fiona Mills — an original cast member of the off-Broadway show STOMP — and NDI teaching artists and choreographers Mary Kennedy and Elizabeth Sellner. The event will be canceled if it rains, and NDI promises to post updates on the event status on its Facebook page — though as of Friday, the forecast appeared clear for Saturday afternoon.
