NEW MILFORD, CT — The town has reached a settlement in its lawsuit challenging the approval of Candlewood Solar LLC's plans for a 20 megawatt solar photovoltaic electric generating facility on a sensitive Candlewood Mountain site, according to a statement from law firm Cramer & Anderson. Cramer & Anderson municipal law partner Dan Casagrande represents the town in conjunction with partner and New Milford Town Attorney Randy DiBella. The settlement limits the scope of the project "dramatically" to a 4-megawatt facility, according to the statement. This is considerably less than the plans approved by the Connecticut Siting Council in 2017. The settlement also confines the project to a 75-acre developable envelope within the 163-acre site. This is intended to limit the environmental and ecological impacts of the project, which were criticized by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and environmental watchdog agencies.
