Press release from the Nassau County District Attorney: May 13, 2022 Quay Sean Hines allegedly shot and killed 33-year-old Amelia Laguerre as she walked in the parking garage of an office building in New Hyde Park MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced that a Bay Shore man was arraigned today on murder charges for allegedly shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend as she walked in the underground parking garage of a medical office building in New Hyde Park. Quay Sean Hines, a/k/a Quay-Sean Renard Hines, 30, was indicted and arraigned before Judge Robert Bogle on charges of Murder in the Second Degree (an A-I felony); and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (a C violent felony). If convicted on the top charge, the defendant faces a maximum of up to 40 years to life in prison. Hines pleaded not guilty and was remanded. The defendant is due back in court on June 15, 2022. "This selfish and desperate act – the murder of a young mother – was allegedly driven by the defendant's obsession with their failed relationship," said DA Donnelly. "After Quay Sean Hines allegedly committed this heinous crime, he carried on as usual and went to the gym and the movies, while family and friends were left to absorb the shock of Amelia Laguerre's tragic loss. Our thoughts are with Amelia's loved ones as we prosecute this case." DA Donnelly said, according to the indictment and investigation, on March 31, 2022, at approximately 4:00 p.m., 33-year-old Amelia Laguerre, Hines' former girlfriend, entered the underground parking garage of the office building where she worked at 1999 Marcus Avenue in New Hyde Park. The defendant, allegedly armed with a loaded firearm, repeatedly fired at Laguerre, striking her approximately nine times. Hines then allegedly fled the scene. Officers responded to a call of gun shots fired, and Laguerre was transported to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, where she was pronounced dead at 4:49 p.m. Hines was arrested on April 8, 2022, in Merrick by members of the Nassau County Police Department's Bureau of Special Operations and Homicide Squad. The case is being prosecuted by Senior Litigation Counsel Michelle Lewisohn of the Homicide Bureau. The defendant is represented by Scott Gross, Esq.
