Description
This session explores family dynamics relative to recovery and how to engage families more effectively in substance abuse treatment. Families have an enormous impact on the members thereof. Families can also be a tremendous influence regarding both substance use and recovery. It is often, however, difficult for those serving people with substance use disorders to engage families. This session will explore family dynamics, the impact of substance use within family systems, and how to engage families more effectively, as well as an overview of clinical interventions. ~~~ Course Goals: Participants will be able to: Verbalize the importance of social connection, social learning, and the role of the family. Identify distinctions between functional and dysfunctional families. Describe the impact of substance use on family systems.Articulate ways to engage family systems in treatment and recovery. No, snacks will be provided Handouts: yes, they will be given out at the training ~~~ Presenter: James Campbell has been working professionally in the human services field for over twenty-five years. His passion is helping individuals, families, and relationships to heal through leveraging their strengths and supporting other helping professionals as they cultivate their skills and expertise to assist others more effectively. James is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Addiction Counselor, Master Addictions Counselor, and an Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor. He is also a member of both NAADAC and ACA. James is the immediate past President of Addiction Professionals of South Carolina (aka SCAADAC) and has worked in a wide range of clinical settings over the years. Currently he serves as the Training and Technical Assistance Manager for the Southeast Addiction Technology Transfer Center located at the National Center for Primary Care at Morehouse School of Medicine and works privately as a nationally recognized author, consultant, professor, and speaker.
