CAPE MAY, NJ — The recent storms and winds unearthed century-old railroad tracks on the beach in Cape May. The "ghost tracks" were visible on May 11, according to a Facebook post by Liz Goldsmith, who shared photos of the tracks. She said they were seen between Sunset and Higbee Beach at low tide. According to Goldsmith's post, the tracks were used by Cape May Sand Company starting in 1905 to support munitions testing. A report by NJ.com said that the tracks were used until 1936, used throughout World War I and also for mining sand to turn into glass or cement. The tracks were first unearthed in 2014, the report said, and have been seen since then a few times after storms. You can see Goldsmith's photos here.
