An alternative and wholistic approach to mental health. (yoga, crystal bowl meditation, nutrition) Designed for those looking for a wholistic approach to mental health and a desire to connect back to the body. During this mini retreat Jessica Spackman RYT200, RDN will lead you through an all levels gentle vinyasa flow. Although titled gentle, we will build strength, flexibility, balance, endurance, and stamina. We will use breath and movement to bring your awareness back to your body. After creating movement within the body, you will be guided into a final relaxation pose for 20 minutes of crystal bowl sound meditation. Amanda Shaw MA, LMHC, ATR-P will guide you through a reflection process that will bring you inspired practical solutions. We will finish the mini-wellness retreat with a nutritious drink called cacao and a discussion on how nutrition affects mental health. Leave the retreat with tools to continue transforming your health. BENEFITS OF YOGA AND MEDITATION Yoga’s incorporation of meditation and breathing can help improve a person’s mental well-being. Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness; increases body awareness; relieves chronic stress patterns; relaxes the mind; centers attention; and sharpens concentration. Body and self-awareness are particularly beneficial because they can help with early detection of physical problems and allow for early preventive action. The purpose of yoga is to build strength, awareness and harmony in both the mind and body. There are more than 100 different types, or schools, of yoga, most sessions typically include breathing exercises, meditation, and assuming postures (sometimes called asana or poses) that stretch and flex various muscle groups. During this mini retreat you will be guided through an all levels gentle vinyassa flow. This flow is designed to connect breath with movement in order to reach new levels of strength, power, flexibility, and peace in poses. NUTRITION AND MENTAL HEALTH Nutrition deficiencies are known to affect one's mental health. In fact, 95% of Americans are deficient in one key nutrient that impacts physical and mental health. Embark in a discussion with Registered Dietitian, Jessica Spackman on the impact nutrition has on mental health. Learn about the common nutrition deficiencies, ways to correct/prevent them, and the parasympathetic nervous system's roll in digestion. MEET YOUR HOSTS Jessica Spackman is a Registered Dietitian and 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher. Having gone through her own transition to a more wholistic lifestyle, she knows first hand what it is like to connect back to the body. After seeing the impact diet and lifestyle had on herself, she became a Registered Dietitian (RDN) and Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT). She currently works as a RDN in behavioral health and has her own telehealth nutrition consultation practice. Her approach to health and wellness is quite different from other dietitians and healthcare professionals. Whereas most people focus on limiting calories and exercise to maintain a healthy weight, She utilizes mindful and intuitive eating skills to connect you back to your body. Her practice utilizes both medical nutrition therapy and mindful techniques to enhance the health and well-being of others. Amanda Shaw is a Licensed Mental Health Counsellor and Provisional Art Therapist. She received her Bachelors degree in psychology, with a minor in studio art at the University of Central Florida in 2014. Before obtaining her master's in Art Therapy at the George Washington University, Amanda taught elementary art education at a title-I school in Cocoa, Florida for two years. She has worked in a variety of positions within the art and mental health fields. These positions include Dependency Case Manager with the Department of Children and Families for Brevard, Florida and School Programs Assistant for the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History in D.C. Amanda has worked in holistic healing as a Reiki II practitioner since June of 2016. She continues to spread love, light and healing on the East and West coasts of Florida.
