Greenwich Village's Iconic Halloween Parade Canceled: Report

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — Tens of thousands of zombies, witches, ghosts, cats, clowns, and other costumed New Yorkers won't get the chance to strut through Lower Manhattan this Halloween. New York City's Village Halloween Parade has been canceled due to coronavirus-related concerns, according to the New York Post. The Halloween parade typically runs up Sixth Ave from Spring Street to 16th Street through Greenwich Village. It would have been the 47th running of the spooky parade, and a once in every seven-year chance to celebrate the holiday on a Saturday. "Billy Porter was going to be the grand marshall, and the theme was going to be 'Big Love,'" parade director Gene Flemming told the New York Post. Flemming also noted to The Post that it was a "huge blow for Greenwich Village businesses," as the Halloween parade's massive turnout made it one of the biggest business days of the year. A press release is expected to get sent out by the parade's organizers Monday, announcing the official cancellation.
