Village Org Releases E-Program Schedule For January

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — The Village Preservation organization just announced its January virtual e-programming schedule on Tuesday. Founded in 1980, Village Preservation is "dedicated to preserving the architectural heritage and cultural history of Greenwich Village, the East Village and NoHo." Here is a selection of the online programming that the organization is offering in January, including book talks, discussions about the landscape of Greenwich Village, and conversations with long-time business owners in the neighborhood. Book Talk: Walking Manhattan Sideways — Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. In 2011, Betsy Polivy walked the entire original Manhattan grid, from 1st Street to 155th Street. She documented each business she found along her travels, met the owners, and listened to stories as she went along. The project took six years to complete. The talk will feature two of the Greenwich Village small business owners that are featured in Polivy's book. You can sign up for the Zoom here. Book Talk: Joan Baez: The Last Leaf — Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. In celebration of Joan Baez's 80th birthday, Greenwich Preservation is hosting a conversation with Liz Thomson, the author of "Joan Baez: The Last Leaf" biography. The conversation will also feature Grammy-nominated music historian Arthur Levy and singer-songwriter David Massengill. You can sign up for the Zoom here. The Whole World Passes Through: Stories From The Cornelia Street Cafe — Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. The Lower Manhattan organization is hosting a "very special" virtual conversation with Robin Hirsh, a writer, performer, co-founder and operator of the Greenwich Village-based Cornelia Street cafe for 41 years. He'll talk about the countless interesting interactions he's had over the decades and what it is like to own a business in Greenwich Village. You can sign up for the Zoom here.
