BATAVIA, IL — Batavia Boardwalk Shops' grand-opening weekend is set for May 20, and 10 shops were announced tenants for the event's third summer season. To maintain an ever-changing flow of products, the tiny shops will feature items from Scandanavian baked goods and charcuterie boards to wood-turned bowls and hand-poured soaps. The 2022 season will run through Dec. 18, and shops will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Located in downtown Batavia adjacent to the River Street entrance off Wilson Street, the Boardwalk Shops were designed "to help house and foster small businesses and create a place where shoppers might find their favorite, new local products," officials said in a news release Friday. By becoming a tenant at the Boardwalk Shops, organized by not-for-profit organization Batavia MainStreet, business owners can test their shops before signing a long-term lease in Batavia. "After the amazingly successful and supportive season that our Boardwalk Shops experienced the last two years, this year's group is sure to see great success," Beth Walker, Batavia MainStreet executive director, said in a statement. "We are so excited to kick off the shopping season on the Boardwalk and hope to see everyone dedicated to the shop-local lifestyle down on the Boardwalk."
