Sterling Heights Road Rage Prompts Shooting, 2 Arrested: Police

STERLING HEIGHTS, MI — Two people were arrested Wednesday night after they fired shots at a minivan following a crash in Sterling Heights, police said. Officials said two people in a white Saturn SUV cut off and gave the middle finger to a driver inside a black Chrysler minivan, causing the vehicles to crash into each other at 7:30 p.m. in the area of Van Dyke Avenue and 17 Mile Road in Sterling Heights. After the crash, the minivan pulled over and the SUV pulled in behind it, officials said. That's when police said two people inside the SUV started firing shots, striking the minivan multiple times. The driver of the minivan was not injured in the shooting, according to authorities. After firing the shots, police said the two people inside the SUV sped away south on Van Dyke Avenue. Shortly later, officers found the SUV in a parking lot near 16 1/2 Mile Road and arrested the two people, authorities said. Officers found a black 9 mm semi-automatic handgun and a black high-powered BB gun inside the Saturn, authorities said. Officials identified the two men in the SUV as Detroit and Warren residents, and each face felony charges. "Due to the outstanding job and quick response of our officers, two dangerous suspects were apprehended," Sterling Heights police said in a news release. "During a time of rush hour traffic, these suspects didn't care who they injured with their driving, as well (as) shooting at occupants of another vehicle."
