PHOENIX, AZ —Phoenix police have arrested a suspect in connection with a bomb threat Wednesday night that led to the evacuation of several downtown buildings, according to the department. David Kalal was arrested on suspicion of misconduct, simulated explosives and DUI, the PPD said. PPD spokesperson Vincent Cole said the department received a call about the threat at around 5:15 p.m. The department investigated the threat and "fortunately, no explosives were found," Cole told Patch. According to Fox 10, the threat included a reported bomb near 3rd Street and Van Buren Street. The station reported that police investigated a suspicious vehicle in that area. The PPD said the downtown businesses that were evacuated were the AC Hotel and AMC Theater, both inside the Arizona Center, and the APS building. CBS 5 reported that Arizona State University, which has a downtown Phoenix campus, sent out an alert informing students and staff about the suspicious vehicle and asking them to stay away from the area. At 9:30 p.m. the PPD announced it had made an arrest in connection with the threat.
