WEST VILLAGE, NY — Beware the red bicycle. Police are looking for a thief accused of stealing iPhones out of people's hands as he bikes by them on the street. Here are the details surrounding the two incidents, both of which took place on Sept. 25. Incident No. 1 At 2:35 p.m., a 71-year-old woman was walking near 561 7th Avenue when an unidentified person riding a red bicycle snatched the victim's iPhone out of her hand. The woman didn't get injured, but the phone thief escaped northbound on 7th Avenue. Incident No. 2 The second incident happened in the West Village. A 28-year-old woman was taking pictures in front of a building near 2 West 14th Street when an unidentified person riding a red bicycle rode past and grabbed her iPhone. Again the victim was not injured, but the woman's phone also contained her ID and credit cards. A few hours later, the thief bought something with the credit card at a GameStop, police said. On Sunday, the New York Police Department released information and photos of the person accused in the thefts. Police describe the thief as a male with a slim build, black hair, and last seen wearing a black backpack, a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and riding a red bicycle.
