WEST VILLAGE, NY — The Village Preservation announced its November e-programming schedule on Friday. Founded in 1980, Village Preservation is "dedicated to preserving the architectural heritage and cultural history of Greenwich Village, the East Village and NoHo." Here is the full schedule of online programming that the organization is offering in November: Nov. 9 Village Preservation will host a panel talk called "The Art of Community: a #Westbeth50 Oral History." The Westbeth Artists Housing and Center for the Arts is a nonprofit housing and commercial space in the West Village that provides affordable living and artist space in New York City. The panel will include five artists with intimate knowledge of Westbeth and the arts scene in Lower Manhattan. You can register here for the Zoom link. Nov. 12 Village Preservation will host a lecture about the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures, and cinema history below 14th Street. Jennifer Fronc, a professor of history at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, will lead the lecture. You can register for the Zoom link here. Nov. 17 & 19 Village Preservation will continue its education classes that includes virtual walking tours of the neighborhood's museums, landmarks, townhouses, apartment buildings, and general city streets. The class also goes over zoning laws, regulatory agencies, and how to best engage with the Department of Buildings. You can register online here. Nov. 17 Village Preservation will host a lecture about 100 years of the American Civil Liberties Union, which was first founded in the Village. A group of Villagers joined together in 1920 to defend First Amendment rights, the meeting eventually led to the creation of the ACLU. The lecture will be led by scholar and writer Amy Aronson, and ACLU president and lawyer Susan N. Herman. You can register for the Zoom link here. Nov. 19 Village Preservation will host a lecture about reflecting on 40 years of the organization being in the neighborhood. Executive Director Andrew Berman will lead listeners back at four decades of "documenting, celebrating, and fighting to preserve Greenwich Village, the East Village, and NoHo."
