RE flakey ABQ musicians

Description

I played a gig last week as a fill in. I worked hard, learned the songs, went to 3 rehearsals. Everyone was on time, worked on their parts, and we performed with 2 regular members, and 2 fill in players. It went well. There are quality players, and quality people, here, but networking seems to be the way to find them. If you know the blues cats, or the jazzers, (and there is some overlap in some groups) or the handful of working country bands around, you'll know there are some very professional types here. I don't know the rock scene at all, so I can't answer for them. My point is, like the commenter who noted that you are just meeting the wrong ones, there are plenty of reliable players, but in this town, it's hard to get a commitment if there isn't potential for money soon. And you have to ask yourself, If I don't have at least the possibility of gigs, what am I offering pro quality players? You may need them, but what do you have that they need? I'm not trying to put down or discourage, but just to note some realities of the ABQ scene.
