Press release from West Islip School District: November 2, 2020 West Islip High School freshman Sophia Stehlik was recently named a winner in the 2020 New York State School Music Association Young Composers Honors Concert. Stehlik's jazz septet "The Day After Yesterday" will be featured at the NYSSMA Cyber Summit taking place in early December. "Sophia is a talented percussionist who has previously been selected for many accolades involving electronic and instrumental compositions, beginning in the third grade," said Eric Albinder, West Islip's director of art and music education.
