Press release from West Islip School District: Dec. 22, 2020 In Janet Wolfe's art class at West Islip's Oquenock Elementary School, kindergartners created a mural inspired by artist Piet Mondrian. During the lesson, the students explored Mondrian's art and life in New York City. They learned how the excitement of boogie woogie music and the cars driving through the city inspired him to create the artwork "Broadway Boogie Woogie," in which he painted the lively buildings and streets using squares in vibrant primary colors. The students drew cars and used black paper to create squares, then colored in the squares with red, yellow and blue like Mondrian. "The students enjoyed listening to boogie woogie music while they created their art," said Wolfe. This press release was produced by West Islip School District.
