Sudbury's Free Taxi Ride Service Will Continue Into 2023

SUDBURY, MA — A town program that provides free rides to low-income and other vulnerable residents will be on call through at least spring 2023 following a recent Town Meeting vote. Town Meeting approved a $100,000 appropriation to keep the Go Sudbury! Taxi and Uber programs going through fiscal year 2023, which includes the 12 months beginning on July 1. The program started up in fall 2020 thanks to a grant from the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) and MassDevelopment. The program continued through March 2021 when it was renewed due to a second MassDevelopment grant. At the time, Sudbury teamed up with Concord and Maynard to provide free rides. The program is open to Sudbury residents who are 50 or older, at least 18 and living with a disability that prevents driving, a veteran or active duty service member, low income or an essential worker. The town provides rides through Uber, Tommy's Taxi in Framingham and JFK Transportation in Natick. Rides can be anywhere within a 25-mile radius of Sudbury, but must either start or end in town.
