MASSAPEQUA, NY — The state Department of Transportation will be closing lanes of the Southern State Parkway in Massapequa and Farmingdale starting next week.
State workers will need to close lanes on the roadway for approximately two months to resurface the pavement. Closures will happen on the westbound side of the parkway between exit 32 and exit 27.
Work will begin starting May 16, and one or two lanes will be closed overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Starting the week of May 23, all westbound lanes will be closed overnight between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic will have to follow a detour from exit 32S onto southbound Route 110. They will go about 1 1/2 miles, then head west on Sunrise Highway. Take Sunrise Highway for about five miles, then get on the northbound Wantagh State Parkway, which will take drivers back to the westbound Southern State Parkway.
The dates and duration of the work could change depending on weather conditions. Drivers are advised to plan their routes around the work.
