Come to East Lyme Touch A Truck Niantic Rotary to conduct an Amber Alert Safe Child ID Event by June Hoye On Saturday, May 21, 2022 the Thames West Auxiliary of Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut and the East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department will co-sponsor the Thirteenth Touch A Truck event. This is a family event that will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McCook Point Park in Niantic. There will be a Horn Free Hour from 9 to 10 a.m. especially for the younger set and for noise-sensitive children. Returning again will be the NIANTIC ROTARY with their project AMBER ALERT to safeguard children. This program is a voluntary, nationwide partnership to combat child abduction by providing immediate descriptive information to law enforcement to aid in a child's safe recovery. The AMBER ALERT Safe Child ID Project is the only known program to pass out an ID card to parents that can be immediately handed to Law Enforcement as soon as a child is discovered missing. The AMBER ALERT Safe Child ID Project has endeavored to provide both privacy and security of the information and the computer system. Privacy is achieved by omitting the child's name and address from the ID card. Security of the data is provided by making access to the information available only to law enforcement officials who can activate an AMBER ALERT. The Rotary Chairs for this event are Ester Williams, and Ken Payne. More information can be found at http://amberchildid.org/information.html There are 159 non-family (stranger) child abductions per day! Be safe; take advantage of this valuable service. Additional information can be found on the Agency's website, www.childandfamilyagency.org; or by calling Child and Family-860-437-4550 ext. 1406. Follow us on Facebook- Touch A Truck East Lyme,CT.
