BELMONT, MA — A 39-year-old man was arrested Thursday for calling in a fake bomb threat to Belmont High School. The man was only identified as a 39-year-old from Ossipee, New Hampshire, Belmont Police Chief James MacIsaac said in a statement. Police were able to arrest MacIsaac from a Holiday Inn in Peabody. On Wednesday, Belmont High School officials canceled classes and closed the school after receiving a bomb threat through the town's joint communications center around 6:30 a.m. No students were in the building when the threat was called, but the few faculty members inside were evacuated, police said. Officers responded to the school and swept the building; by 9 a.m., police said the building was safe. It is unclear what the 39-year-old's connection to the school is at this time. Patch has reached out to Belmont and Peabody police departments and will update when we learn more. No additional information was immediately available.
