RENTON, WA — One of the region's many precious corvids is safe and sound this week, thanks to the efforts of a resident and a Renton police officer. According to the Renton Police Department, dispatchers fielded a call last week from a homeowner on Southeast 164th Street, reporting a crow had become stuck inside their walls. With animal control off-duty and unable to handle the surprise avian tenant, police said officer Matt Nugent tapped his inner Ace Ventura and volunteered to serve as "pet detective." The rescuers determined the bird was trapped in the area of the home's fireplace and worked to dismantle it to access the startled visitor. With some gentle coaxing, the team welcomed the creature to freedom and it wasted no time soaring directly out the sliding door. The police department shared a video of the dramatic finale in a social media post. "Police officers get dispatched to all types of calls: big and small, and sometimes furry and feathery," the department wrote on Facebook. "We categorize this type of call as: 'All other duties as assigned.'"
