Man Injured, Woman Charged In Groton Crash: Police

GROTON, CT — A woman is facing OUI charges in a Wednesday night car vs. motorcycle wreck that left a man injured, according to police. Police received the call reporting a crash at 5:13 p.m. in the area of Route 12 and Ohio Avenue. A police investigation found that Jacob Lawton, 19, of Bozrah was on a 2005 Yamaha XVS 11000 motorcycle traveling south on Route 12 approaching the intersection with Ohio Avenue. Darcy Morrissette, 41, of Norwich, was also traveling south on Route 12 in a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria. Lawton slowed for a traffic signal when Morrissette approached the intersection and failed to obey a red traffic signal, according to police. She then hit the back of the motorcycle, pushing it through the intersection, and the rear of the motorcycle became lodged under the car's front bumper with Lawton still on the motorcycle. Morrissette then struck a light pole on the west shoulder of the road as well as a metal beam guardrail, according to police. Morrissette continued forward for some distance until she stopped her vehicle south of Ohio Avenue, and Lawton was able to get off of the motorcycle. Morrissette attempted to leave the scene, but a witness blocked in her vehicle preventing her from doing so, according to police. Morrissette was not injured in the crash. Lawton was transported via ambulance to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for further treatment of what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. Morrissette was not cooperative with police and was later arrested and transported to GrotonTown Police Department for processing. She was charged with operating under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, second-degree breach of peace, third-degree criminal mischief, first-degree reckless endangerment, failure to obey a control signal, failure to drive in proper lane, evading responsibility, and operating a vehicle without a license.
