FALLS CHURCH, VA — The City of Falls Church is asking city residents to let the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority know that they support the city's proposed N. Washington St. Multimodal Improvements Project. The project was one of 26 projects submitted to the NVTA for funding consideration as part of the regional authority's fiscal year 2022-2027 six-year program. The N. Washington St. Multimodal Improvements Project includes sidewalk widening, improved intersection geometry, signal improvements, crosswalks, utility undergrounding, lighting and landscaping between Great Falls Street and Gresham Place. Construction on the $22.5 million project, which would connect residential neighborhoods with parks, new commercial developments and cultural amenities, is slated to begin in fiscal year 2026, the city said. The applications for regional transportation projects for the NVTA's six-year program were due on Oct. 1, 2021. During the recommendation phase in June and July, NVTA staff will develop and present project recommendations to three committees, which, in turn, provide final comments and their own recommendations in June. The NVTA expects to take action to adopt the FY2022-2027 Six Year Program during its July meeting. The public is invited to submit comments on the NVTA's six-year plan candidate projects through Sunday, May 22. Members of the public can provide one comment submission per person to the NVTA. The one comment can be submitted by email at [email protected]; by voicemail at 571-354-0065; by mail at Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, 3040 Williams Drive, Suite 200, Fairfax, VA 22031; or on the NVTA's online submission form.
