Description
SECAUCUS, NJ — A Secaucus gas station says they will actually allow customers to pump their own gas on Friday.
The Exxon at 450 Rt. 3 West (by Olive Garden) will not only let customers pump their own gas, but also offer a discount for those that do.
This is part of a statewide campaign by some people in New Jersey's gasoline industry to convince Gov. Phil Murphy to allow self-service.
Friday's campaign was organized by Fuel Your Way NJ — a coalition "comprised of business and industry organizations" that advocates for New Jersey to allow drivers to pump their own gas while maintaining full-service stations.
78 gas stations throughout New Jersey will offer lower, "self-serve" prices Friday as part of Fuel Your Way NJ's bid for the state to offer self-service options at the pump.
Murphy has indicated he's open minded to the idea of letting New Jersey residents pump their own gas. Some lawmakers say self-serve gas could be as much as 15 cents per gallon cheaper than full-service.
But others argue there is no guarantee stations will reduce prices, even if they don't have to hire extra staff.
