ROMEOVILLE, IL — Will County officials have yet to release the name of the man who was shot by a SWAT officer at a Romeoville bank on Tuesday, but the county coroner said the 65-year-old man lived in Crest Hill. Coroner Laurie Summers said that officials are still withholding the identity of the man pending the notification of his family. However, Summers said in a news release that the man died from a gunshot wound and died at 5:32 p.m. at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital. Summers said that her office will release the man's identity once his family has been notified of his death. The Illinois State Police is continuing to investigate the nature of the shooting, Summers said. Police officials said Tuesday that the man was shot once by a Will County SWAT team officer and died later. The shooting took place after the man went into the Fifth Third Bank on South Weber Road shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Police said Tuesday that the man initially had hostages in the bank and demanded that the police be called to the bank. Once officers arrived, however, the man allowed the hostages to leave without injury and remained inside the bank. Witnesses told police that the man had fired the gun multiple times inside the bank, but police have not said what led to the SWAT team officer firing the shot at the man. Police said it appears that the man was not there to rob the bank but have not offered details about his motive for being there with a gun. Police officials said on Wednesday that the man was exiting the bank when the SWAT team officer shot the man. An Illinois State Police spokeswoman declined to give specifics about the incident and only said that the man was shot once by police and later died.
