Press release from Rockford Public Schools: RPS 205 families, We are updating our May and June transportation plans for students who use district transportation. We will cancel three bus routes each day, starting Monday, May 16. View the calendar to see affected routes; the calendar can be sorted by school. A pdf list of unavailable routes will be available on our website as soon as possible. Several of our drivers are unavailable to drive each day for various reasons, which is again stressing our already thin staff. We will provide drivers for 157 of the 160 scheduled bus routes. This gives our Transportation staff enough capacity to cover as many routes as possible, but also provide predictability for our families, instead of canceling routes with little or no notice. A first-year driver can earn nearly $39,000. That includes a $3,000 signing bonus and up to $5,500 a year in attendance bonuses. Starting pay is $15.30 an hour with full-time benefits, including health insurance and life insurance. The job includes 12 paid holidays and paid training, with opportunities for evening routes, field trips and summer routes.
