RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested Wednesday and charged with menacing a police officer and others with a knife, authorities said. Michael Miles, 46, was arrested and charged with attempted aggravated assault on a police officer, a felony; menacing a police officer, a felony; third degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony; fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor; and second degree menacing, a misdemeanor, police said. According to Riverhead Police, at 10:27 a.m., officers responded to Osborn Ave. after reports of a man walking around with a knife. While officers responded, a second call came in about the man menacing a different person with a knife, police said. Several individuals were found in the street being threatened by Miles, who was wielding a large kitchen knife, police said. An officer told Miles to drop the knife, but he began "aggressively approaching" the officer, with the knife in his hand, police said. Next, Miles threw the knife at the officer, almost hitting him, police said. The officer tasered Miles, arrested him, and took him into custody without injury, police said. Miles was held for morning arraignment, police said.
