Jefferson County Reports More Than 750 New Coronavirus Cases

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Just a couple of months ago, a daily total of 800 new COVID-19 cases was more common for the entire state of Alabama, not just one county. However, as December has continued to see a rapid spread of the virus throughout the country, Jefferson County reported nearly 800 new COVID-19 cases on Christmas Eve. The 773 new cases in Jefferson County reported over the last 24 hours is the highest total of new COVID-19 cases in a day the county has seen since the pandemic began in March. The Alabama Department of Public Health reported 4,232 new cases of COVID-19 statewide Thursday, and 89 more deaths. Thus far, 4,676 people have died from COVID-19 in Alabama.
