BRISTOL, PA — Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County celebrated its 124th dedication of a home in Bristol on April 28.
Also known as Habitat Bucks, the non-profit organization utilized the work of 95 volunteers to build the new house for a local mother, known as Melissa, and her two sons, who had been living in small apartments as they looked for a home.
"My biggest dream for myself and sons was a house—one we can call our own; one that no one can take from us; one we can put the hard work in to make it what we want," said Melissa. "I was a kid without these things: no house, no home, and no stability! I strive to be the opposite! This is a dream come true."
Founded in 1990, Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County offers families a path toward stability and independence. Through its Homeownership Program, the organization provides an opportunity for low-income families to find stability as they plan their futures. This program is responsible for the 124 Bucks County homes that Habitat Bucks has built, including Melissa's.
"At Habitat Bucks we believe that affordable housing plays a critical role in strong stable communities," said Stacey Mullholland, Vice President of the Habitat Board of Directors. Experts also draw a straight line between housing quality and the wellbeing of children."
Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Bucks County Foundation, County of Bucks, DOW, First Bank, and William Penn Bank acted as lead sponsors of the building of this home. Antonio Pelosi, the Vice President and Regional Banking Senior Manager from Wells Fargo, presented the house keys to Melissa and her sons.
