Description
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Multiple blocks of Fifth Avenue were shut down for around two hours Thursday morning as police investigated a suspicious package, according to the NYPD.
Fifth Avenue was closed to traffic and pedestrians between East 84th and 86th streets, the NYPD's 19th Precinct tweeted at 9:16 a.m.
Two hours later, the precinct said the package has been deemed safe, and that streets and sidewalks had reopened.
The two-block stretch runs directly north of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which stands between East 80th and East 84th streets. During the closure, the precinct advised neighbors to expect emergency vehicles and traffic in the area.
Once the shutdown had ended, police said residual delays were likely on nearby streets.
